Scott and I joined a group of about twenty divers who were hoping to clean the trash from the bottom of the bay in the ocean two Thursdays ago. There were both scuba and free divers (I did scuba while Scott did free diving), and we jumped in with our gloves and mesh bags, with all the others and began to search the ocean floor.

It was a successful ocean clean-up with the total amount of trash brought in at 809 items, and a total weight of 45.5kg. Within the debris that was collected was a total of 233 pieces of plastic, there was also pieces of metal, fishing wire, zip-ties, and even a truck tire - which the free divers brought up. This was a decrease in the amount of debris which was collected the previous time they did a trash dive, which means either people have stopped dumping trash into the bay, or that more debris is being taken out further into the ocean (hopefully its the first one…)

After the dive we all went to the Mule Yard where we got pizza and drinks and watched a short film about the previous trash dive they had done where they collected 200 kg of debris from the bay.
