Yesterday I began a nature journal to help keep a record for myself of the different environments and wildlife on St Helena. Starting this has also helps me slow down and notice the little things around me on a daily basis, while also practicing my sketching and writing.

During the afternoon I took a drive around the island looking for wirebirds (St Helena Plover). First I went to Flagstaff which is where the wind turbines are and some of their nesting spots. There were also cows in the field yesterday so I took photos of the cows and searched for the little white birds.

I didn’t get any photos of the elusive birds here, but I captured some little finches sitting on a wire.

Then I drove towards the airport which is another one of their nesting grounds. Here I stopped at Prosperous bay and did the beginning of the trail to go further into their environment, however I also didn’t see any while I was walking here!

Once I got back into the car and started to drive away, I saw some flying over the hills hopefully next time I can get some with the camera.

After here I drove into Jamestown and picked up Scott from work and we came home and made a tuna pasta bake and then watched Hunt for the Wilderpeople which was an entertaining movie about two people who escape into the New Zealand bush to avoid being captured.
