On Saturday (Aug 5) this past weekend we went for our morning dive at 8:15am. On our way out to lighter rock, we saw a pod of dolphins and also en route to the dive site we saw a mother humpback whale and her calf swimming close to the island! We stopped the boat and watched them swim off into the sea before starting our dive, where we hoped we could hear them singing through the water.
Once we jumped in, (it was slightly less cold than Thursday because there was sun and I also had a thicker wetsuit) we dove down to the ocean floor and began exploring the cave coral environment. Scott spotted an octopus hiding in its little den surrounded by shells, and all we could see were its eyes peaking through its shelter.
We continued on the dive and the underwater environment changed dramatically, it began as a gradual slope descending and then suddenly dropped and turned into cliff steps going down to 22metes in depth. I stayed up a bit shallower, following little schools of butterflyfish and taking pictures of them. We also saw a jackfish which liked following us around and was playing in our bubbles.
The dive was about 50 minutes long and we went down to about 22 meters (72 feet).
I think this is one of my favorite dive spots because of all the places to explore, and the variety of fish and other sea creatures which can be seen.
