December was a busy and exciting month for us on the island. My parents were visiting, and so we did lots of exploring with them around the island, both on land and in the water. St Helena was all decked out for the holidays, with the town covered in lights.

They were here for two weeks, and during that time we went on hikes where we did lots of exploring and even went on a boat tour where we saw dolphins and a big cloud of birds who were feeding. Some of the places we went to included Great Stone Top, Banks, and the ruins of a flax mill in Fairyland which was a magical place.

There is a celebration that happens on the island every Christmas called the festival of lights. This is when everyone across the island comes out to see the floats which have been made out of Christmas lights and are then driven through town while music is played out of speakers from the back of trucks.

At the end of these two weeks, we all flew together to the UK to celebrate Christmas together with Scott's family. Although our time in the UK was short, we packed a lot in, including a wedding at an estate which was like a castle!

After New Years, Scott and I made the return journey to the island, stopping in Cape Town for a day where we went to Kirstenbosch (the botanical garden) which was beautiful. Then in the afternoon we walked along the V&A waterfront to see the boats and shops and we even saw a sea lion jumping through the canals!
