On Sunday we did our third postbox walk to Cox’s Battery which is now a ruin, but was once a reinforcement along the sea cliff. It was a nice hike through earth and desert terrain, with many little patches of succulents and cacti along the path.
As we were walking through one of the valleys we came across an old firing range which had flooded, and also a strange piece of machinery which we could not quite figure out what it had been used for, or even how someone had gotten it down there.
The trail dipped down into a valley which looked like an old river bed, and then sloped upward along a rocky cliff where we could look out over the sea. We kept an eye out for humpback whales as it is the beginning of their season here, but we have not spotted any yet.
It was a very sunny and warm walk, and on the way back to the car it started to rain which was welcoming and helped to cool us down.
The hike took us about 2 hours to do there and back, and it was about 3 miles (4.8km) long.
